Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is the advantage of a fabric pergola over a louvered (bioclimatic) pergola?
The main advantage is complete openness. When the fabric roof is retracted, you have a fully open view of the sky above (except for thin cross beams). In a louvered pergola, even when the louvers are open, they remain overhead and partially shade the space. A fabric pergola is ideal if you want to let in the maximum amount of sunlight during winter.

 

2. Is the fabric pergola resistant to strong winds?
Yes. Most fabric pergolas on the market are lightweight, but the Misteral fabric pergola uses the robust structure of a bioclimatic pergola. It can withstand winds up to 200 km/h. However, we recommend retracting the fabric into the cassette during forecasts of extreme winds to prevent mechanical damage.

 

3. Does the fabric let water through?
It depends on the chosen type:

  • Waterproof fabric (technical PVC): The roof is 100% waterproof. Water drains into integrated gutters and flows down the posts into the ground.

  • Shading (screen) fabric: Allows water and air to pass through and is primarily designed for sun protection.

 

4. Does the fabric get dirty when folded?
No. The system has a protective cassette. When the fabric is retracted, it is hidden under an aluminum cover that protects it from dust, rain, snow, and UV rays when not in use.

 

5. Can this pergola be combined with glass walls?
Yes. Mounted on massive posts (155x155 mm), the structure is stable enough to install sliding glass walls or ZIP screen blinds. This allows you to create an enclosed space that can be used from spring through autumn.

 

6. How is water drainage handled?
In the waterproof version, the fabric is tensioned with a slight slope (which can be hidden in the fascia) so water drains into the integrated gutter. The water is then directed through the post, keeping the area under the pergola dry.
